Wyatt Technology's Optilab rEX Selected For R&D 100 Award

Santa Barabara, CA - Wyatt Technology, the world leader in absolute macromolecular characterization instrumentation and software announces that the Optilab rEX has been selected by R&D Magazine as one of the top 100 innovative new products of the year. This hybrid refractive index (RI) detector also received the 2004 PITTCON Editor's Silver Award. With 256 times the detection power and up to 50 times the dynamic range of any other RI detector in existence, the Optilab rEX is ideal for use by pharmaceutical, biotechnology and chemical personnel to name a few.

The Optilab rEX was noted at the awards for its magnitude of unique features and also its host of instrument firsts. These include the ability to view the full range of instrument detection at all times as well as the capability to measure the dn/dc of a solvent at the same wavelength of light as a light scattering instrument, enabling absolute molecular weight determinations. It also has the capability to measure the absolute refractive index of a solution; a unique option not possible with any other on-line RI detector.

Geofrey Wyatt, President of Wyatt Technology said: "We are very proud to be recognized by the R&D 100 award panel for the Optilab rEX's novel technical features. The Award confirms our status as a leading developer of analytical instrumentation, and underscores the dedication and expertise of our entire team who make this award possible in the first place".

With over 35 years' experience in developing sophisticated laboratory instrumentation, Wyatt Technology has established a reputation as a leader in delivering absolute macromolecular characterization solutions to a variety of industries including biotechnology, chemical, petrochemical and pharmaceutical. With the launch of this pioneering product such as Optilab rEX, Wyatt is continuing to build on this lead.

The R&D Awards were established in 1963 to identify the 100 most technologically significant new products in the market place in that year. Over the years, the R&D 100 Awards have recognized winning products with such household names as the fax machine (1975), the Taxol anticancer drug (1993) and HDTV (1998).
