VSSP (Vent Sizing Software Program)
VSSP (Vent Sizing Software Program) is designed to yield rapid evaluation of relief design for vapor or boiling systems that exhibit latent heat of cooling upon relief or so-called "tempering" effect. The calculational methods are based on DIERS two-phase flow methodology and its extension. This program requires only a few key input parameters as well as physical properties such as liquid specific heat, density and latent heat at the relief conditions. For runaway reactions, experimental self-heat rate data are used directly. For fire exposure or external heating, the total heat input rates are used.
The windows based software yields vent sizes at various overpressures (user input) for five types of relief behavior:
1. All-vapor venting (complete disengagement).
2. All-liquid venting (bottom discharge).
3. Homogeneous-vessel venting (uniform froth).
4. Bubbly-flow regime venting (foamy mixture).
5. Churn-flow regime venting (non-foamy mixture).
