UOP To License Process Technology For Dangote's Petrochemical Complex In Nigeria
Dangote Oil Refining has selected Honeywell's UOP, to license process technology and provide catalysts and equipment for its refinery and petrochemical plant in Lekki near Lagos, Nigeria.
Under the contract, UOP will provide its resid fluid catalytic cracking process and supply propylene, to produce transportation fuels and polypropylene respectively.
Other UOP technologies at this complex will include CCR Platforming, Unicracking and Penex processes to produce high-octane gasoline blending components, diesel and high-octane gasoline.
UOP's alliance partner, Process Consulting Services will provide crude distillation unit (CDU) design.
UOP process, technology and equipment business senior vice-president and general manager Pete Piotrowski said: "UOP has been designing state-of-the-art refineries and petrochemical plants for more than a century, so we are well-equipped to help Nigeria develop a massive new installation to meet its domestic needs."
The company will also supply catalysts, adsorbents and certain equipment for the refinery and petrochemical complex.
Although Nigeria is believed to host huge amount of proven oil reserves, the country relies on imports for fuels and petrochemical products due to lack of domestic refining capabilities.
Piotrowski added: "This project will enable Dangote to improve Nigeria's oil refining capabilities, reduce the country's dependence on imports, and work to revive and transform the Nigerian economy."
