Unocal Spins Off West Coast Agriproducts As Prodica LLC
Unocal Corp. has reorganized its West Coast Agricultural Products business group as Prodica LLC, effective Oct. 1. Unocal expects no personnel changes as a result of the move. The unit will retain its headquarters in Brea, CA, and Prodica representatives will continue to serve existing customers.

The business unit produces ammonium nitrate at Kennewick, WA, and specialty ammonium nitrate finished fertilizers at Kennewick and West Sacramento, CA. Among the company's products are urea-ammonium nitrate solution, granulated ammonium nitrate, calcium ammonium nitrate, N-pHuric acid fertilizer, and pHairway water treatment.

Prodica inherits Agriproducts' 30 distribution centers and 350-dealer network throughout the western and southwestern United States and Mexico. The company also serves the North American industrial market with nitric acid, urea, anhydrous ammonia, aqua ammonia, and sulfuric acid.

Unocal restructured the business as part of its strategy to convert operating units outside its core exploration and production businesses into subsidiary companies. It hopes to eventually sell, spin off, or take the businesses public.

Last year, Unocal transferred its massive Kenai fertilizer facilities in Alaska to a wholly owned limited liability company, Alaska Nitrogen Products LLC. It now operates the units, which have capacity for 1.25 million t/y anhydrous ammonia and 1.1 million t/y of urea.
