Union Carbide and Tosco to form Joint Venture

Union Carbide Corporation and Tosco Corporation (Stamford, CN) recently signed a memorandum of understanding to create a 50/50 joint venture for the production and marketing of polypropylene. Tosco Refining Company, a unit of Tosco Corporation, will be licensed with Union Carbide's Unipol PP Process and will build a 775 million pounds-per-year polypropylene plant at its Bayway Refinery at Linden, NJ. The plant is scheduled to come on stream in the first quarter of 2001.

Tosco's new plant will be designed to produce a full range of homopolymers and random and impact copolymers.
