Unigraphics Solutions' iMAN Portal facilitates c-commerce
Today's iMAN Portal delivers three critical elements to the c-commerce arena.
- A powerful and easy-to-use user interface provides users with an intuitive, customizable window into all the product and process data pertinent to each individual's area of responsibility.
- The portal's application integration technology greatly enhances a manufacturer's ability to seamlessly interface with third party enterprise applications and provide access from a common user interface. As a result, users have the ability to make more accurate and efficient business decisions.
- Comprehensive 2D and 3D visualization is now pervasive throughout the iMAN application via the iMAN Portal's built-in ProductVision PortalViewer. This technology enables a bi-directional flow of data that facilitates a more active role of visualization within product information management.
Ballestra S.p.A., an Italian Global market leader within the chemical industry, selected the iMAN V6 Portal to manage its engineering sourcing and manufacturing processes.
"We were very impressed by the new Portal technology and by the commitment of UGS to long-term evolution of this technology," says Mr. Luca Monari, PDM Project Director, Ballestra. "We are now developing our system and feel we have made the right decision to enable the support of our new Internet-based processes."
CMS S.p.A., another iMAN Portal customer and a recognized leader in the NC machine tool industry, had a similar experience. "Results are exceeding expectations," says Mr. Federico Ratti, the PDM Director for CMS S.p.A. "We are experiencing the strength of the iMAN V6 Portal and building on this application framework, the main backbone of our organization."
Ed Miller, president of CIMdata, Inc., an independent consulting and market research firm specializing in collaborative Product Definition management (cPDm) solutions, believes the information portal is evolving in ways that will increase its utility as a tool for collaborative commerce. According to Miller, customized portals for individual users, as exemplified by the iMAN Portal's customization capability, are replacing the idea of a one-portal-fits-all approach.
"A role-based portal tailored to the needs of different types of users simplifies interaction with the enterprise by presenting only the information they need," says Miller. "It allows a company to be more productive by taking best practices and embodying them in pre-defined portal templates."
"The iMAN Portal is a result of the intense focus that UGS has placed on Internet-based product content management technologies," says Chuck Grindstaff, vice president of products and operations, UGS. "This environment promises something that has been very difficult to achieve in the past -- integration between all of the people, process, application and data involved in supporting the product lifecycle throughout an extended enterprise."
