The Wercs Launches Chemical Approval Process Module
Generally, all new chemicals that are used by a facility have to be evaluated through a defined chemical approval process. The purpose of the chemical approval process is to assure that there is adequate review of the health hazards associated with a proposed chemical before it is used by employees. This process generally involves multiple departments (EH&S, corporate, administrative, etc.) and the review of numerous variables which include, handling, storing, cross referencing against national and international chemical regulations, evaluating for carcinogens, as well as many others. These variables, plus the multiple departments and the disparate sources of data makes the chemical approval process very time consuming.
The Wercs' Chemical Approval Process module provides an electronic platform which enables secured feedback between the requestor of the chemical and the different departments that are involved in the decision making process. Specifically, this new module streamlines searching for chemicals, requesting for approvals and routing the request to relevant departments. To ensure a comprehensive communication channel, automatic e-mails are sent to requesters and approvers. For example, a user can search for a chemical in the database, if it has not been used before, the requesters can generate a formal request via an electronic form. This request is routed to relevant departments, where a decision is made to accept, approve or reject the chemical. The entire review process is electronic and enables each department to seamlessly analyze the proposed chemical against the aforementioned variables.
