Tantalum-Lined Rupture Disc Holders

Continental Disc Corporation offers tantalum lining for select rupture disc holders.
Continental Disc Corporation offers tantalum lining for select rupture disc holders. Tantalum is especially resistant to corrosion, due to a thin oxide layer making it passive and protecting the tantalum from corrosive media.
Tantalum lining still provides the equivalent corrosion protection as a holder manufactured from solid tantalum, but is much more economical. The lining process utilizes tantalum material which is form-fitted to the wetted surfaces of a 316SS rupture disc holder (See Figure 1).
Tantalum lining is ideal because:
- It provides corrosion resistance to practically all organic and inorganic compounds at temperatures near their individual boiling points.
- It is suggested for use where hydrochloric, sulfuric, or phosphoric acid may be present.*
Exceptions to tantalum's corrosion resistance:
- Hydrofluoric acid, fuming sulfuric acid, anhydrous HF, strong alkalis, oxalic acid, or any acid medium containing fluoride ion.*
* Tantalum corrosion resistance data compiled from H.C. Starck Inc.'s "Handbook Tantalum".
