R-Side® Solution - Excess Oil

Source: Hudson Technologies Company
Hudson has developed both online and offline RefrigerantSide® Solutions that effectively eliminate oil logging, restore system efficiency and regain optimum capacity.
The presence of oil in the refrigerant of operating chillers or refrigeration systems is certainly expected. Oil accumulates in refrigerant primarily due to oil migration from the compressor. This is especially true at the end of an overhaul period, usually about four years, when oil starts leaking into the refrigerant at a relatively high rate.

Although, the presence of oil at specific levels may actually enhance performance in some systems, excessive oil buildup in the evaporator, particularly with the new enhanced tube designs, can adversely affect chiller performance and energy efficiency. Excess oil may result in a significant reduction of capacity; efficiency and heat transfer with resultant increased energy consumption.

Hudson has developed both online, i.e., while the chiller continues to operate, and offline RefrigerantSide® Solutions that effectively eliminate oil logging, restore system efficiency and regain optimum capacity.

The features and benefits of this process include:

  • Lost chiller capacity regained
  • Energy efficiency restored
  • Online decontamination eliminates downtime
  • Offline decontamination minimizes downtime
  • All refrigerant and system contaminants including acids, oil, moisture and particulate are reduced or eliminated
