Oregon Metro Collaborates With Agilyx To Launch Polystyrene Foam Collection

Portland, OR /PRNewswire/ - Agilyx Corporation ("Agilyx"), the leader in chemical recycling of post-use plastics back into polymers, chemicals and low carbon fuels, today announced a collaboration with Oregon Metro ("Metro"), a regional government group, to pilot a polystyrene foam collection program. The Polystyrene foam will be aggregated at the Metro South Transfer Station and recycled back to new material using Agilyx's technology.

The Metro South Transfer Station, located at 2001 Washington St, Oregon City, OR 97045, will begin accepting clean Expanded Polystyrene foam ("EPS") packaging at their recycling area as of May of 22nd. EPS, commonly used in appliance, electronics and furniture packaging will be accepted through this program. Agilyx will preprocess the collected EPS and ship it to Regenyx, a joint venture between Agilyx and Americas Styrenics, advanced recycling facility in Tigard, OR.

The pilot program will provide residents of greater Portland an opportunity to participate in the Circular Economy for plastics by enabling end-of-life plastics to be converted back to new plastics and diversion from the landfills. By dropping off foam at Metro South, residents are doing their part to increase recycling of polystyrene. New polystyrene items produced using the advance recycled EPS at Regenyx have up to 70% lower carbon footprint when compared to virgin plastics. The overarching goal of this pilot is to act as a model to develop additional collection programs throughout greater Portland and further increase plastic recovery by expanding access to drop-off facilities.
