Minerals Technologies Buys PCC Facility from Rhodia
Specialty Minerals Lifford, an affiliate of Minerals Technologies Inc., has purchased a precipitated calcium carbonate (PCC) business in Kings Norton, England from Rhodia Limited, a subsidiary of Rhodia. According to a statement from Minerals Technologies, the sale price was approximately $33 million. The facility's 1997 sales were around $18 million.
The PCC operation in Kings Norton will allow Minerals Technologies to establish a base for its specialty PCC business in Europe. The company's specialty PCC products are used in food and pharmaceutical applications use, as well as in plastics, sealants and coatings, and paper. MTI will continue to supply PCC to Rhodia, a leading specialty chemical company.
