The Laing family of companies had its beginnings in Stuttgart, Germany in the early 1970's with the introduction of unique solar and pump products based on technology born from extensive research and development activities begun in earlier years which resulted in a large number of registered patents.

From its success in Europe, the family entered the U.S. market in 1983 with the formation of Laing Thermotech, Inc. in Chula Vista, California for the purpose of manufacturing and marketing its solar and pump products in the U.S. Due, however, to the elimination of solar energy tax credits in 1984 and the resulting eventual collapse of the solar market, Laing ceased the manufacture of its solar products and concentrated on its patented leakproof spherical motor pumps.

Current operations within the Laing family group include marketing and manufacturing entities in Stuttgart, Germany; Cegled (near Budapest), Hungary; and Chula Vista, California; along with a dedicated R & D facility in Stuttgart. In addition to this, Laing Thermotech, Inc. has entered into a joint venture arrangement with Kubota of Japan, forming Kubota Laing, Inc. to market Laing fractional horsepower pumps in the Far East from its facility in Osaka.
