Honeywell Wins Process Automation And Fieldbus Project With KPPC
Italy, Milan - Honeywell has been awarded a $7M contract to implement an Experion Process Knowledge System (PKS) and FOUNDATION Fieldbus solution at a chemical plant operated by Kuwait Paraxylene Production Company (KPPC). Honeywell is partnering with Italian contractor Tecnimont SpA and Korea-based SK Engineering & Construction to implement the solution, which will reduce installation and maintenance costs while boosting performance.
The plant will produce aromatics materials, mainly paraxylene for exportation and benzene that will be used in other regional projects. Due to start production in 2009, the site will be the first major FOUNDATION Fieldbus customer in Kuwait. The new aromatics production facility will be a contributor to KPPC's future growth. KPPC chose Honeywell because of the experience of its local team and its ability to deliver a smooth, low-cost implementation.
By transparently integrating all information and diagnostics about plant sensors and actuators into one place, the Experion and FOUNDATION Fieldbus solution reduces the amount of wiring and hardware required for installation. This approach reduces installation costs, decreases commissioning time and lowers maintenance expenses over the long term. The Experion automation and control platform will enable KPPC operators to control hardware devices more effectively, increasing system and process availability, thus boosting plant performance and reducing downtime, claims the company.
"When developing new production sites, it is essential to keep costs under control from the start," said Paul Orzeske, vice president and general manager, Honeywell Process Solutions EMEA. "Experion and Foundation Fieldbus will save KPPC money during the installation phase, and enable the plant to run efficiently well into the future."
