For hardening all types of high speed steels including molybdenum, molybdenum-tungsten and cobalt. Large numbers of tools may be safely hardened in a comparatively short time with a high speed steel salt bath set-up. These salts are designed for the proper heat treatment of HSS by balancing the composition in such a way as to insure as neutral a bath as practical, minimize dragout or carry-over and promote easy cleaning. HSS tools can be treated rapidly and uniformly without oxidation, decarburization or pitting. Accurate and uniform temperature control is possible and distortion is reduced to a minimum. #90 Casing Salt is available for casing HSS tools to prolong their life and improve their cutting ability.

  • NU-SAL This Barium-Free salt is the most economical and most commonly used neutral salt for heat treating performed within its working range. It is non-hygroscopic and relatively non-corrosive to metal and fixtures. Meets MIL-S10699-B, Class 5.

  • UNI-HARD® NF Frequently used as a preheat for tool hardening or as a heating medium for continuous production hardening. Dragout is minimal because of high fluidity. Uni-Hard is water soluble and non-hygroscopic. Non-ferrous and precious metals as well as ferrous alloys can be treated in Uni-Hard.

  • 10699 CLASS IV SALT Basically the same as Uni-Hard, except that it is formulated per MIL-S-10699-B, Class 4.

  • STA-HARD 17 A neutral salt for hardening, annealing normalizing, or preheating high speed tools. It is non decarburizing, making it suitable for heating alloy tool steels which require high hardening temperatures.

  • STA-HARD 45 A stable salt for neutral heating of ferrous and nonferrous alloys. Sta-Hard 45 is similar to Sta-Hard 17 but provides higher working temperatures.

  • HIGH SPEED 60 A neutral salt designed for heat treating high alloy steels requiring temperatures of 1650 to 2200 deg F. Formulated per MIL-S-10699-B, Class 6.

  • HIGH SPEED 75 Used in forging, brazing, and high temperature hardening of high speed, high carbon, high chrome steels, and stainless steels. Finish ground tools can be heated in High Speed 75 without harming critical areas such as threaded sections. Formulated per MIL-S-10699-B, Class 7A.

  • #800 Working range covers temperatures frequently used in hardening and tempering steel. This product is also used as a high speed quench and draw.

  • #900 For Quenching and tempering steel. #900 is especially suited for oil hardening followed by relatively high draw, since no washing is required between quench and draw. #900 is less hygroscopic than #800 and can be used at higher temperatures. Formulated per MIL-S-10699-B, Class 4A.

  • AL-2 A mixture of nitrates in granular form especially formulated as an economical bath for tempering tool steels requiring treatment within its working range. This is a highly fluid bath that offers low dragout because of its fast drainage properties. Applicable where chloride salts are not wanted.

  • AL-3 A low-cost mixture of nitrates in granular form especially formulated for tempering steels where the lower melting point and wider working range of AL-2 are not needed. Like AL-2, AL-3 is also a highly fluid bath that offers low dragout because of its fast drainage properties. It is another non-chloride alternative.

  • #90 CASING SALT An economical cyanide base salt which produces hard wear resistance properties for high speed tool steels in low dragout and/or low production use. It will maintain optimum operating characteristics over long periods of time, and provide an active operating bath on short notice. Casing is achieved at lower temperatures where iron nitride is selectively formed as a thin case on the tool surface.
