Gensym Introduces G2 Diagnostic Assistant 3.0 and NeurOn-Line 3.0 -- Software for Intelligent Process Management

Gensym Corp. (NASDAQ:GNSM), a leading provider of software for creating intelligent systems, has announced new releases of its 32 Diagnostic Assistant (GDA) and NeurOn-Line. Version 3.0 of GDA and NeurOn-Line offer an integrated approach for developing and deploying intelligent process management applications.

Gensym's G2 Diagnostic Assistant is said to offer a visual programming environment for building intelligent process management and diagnostic applications. With capabilities like fuzzy logic, statistical trending, evidence combination, alarm filtering, and on-line advice, GDA provides a powerful system for predicting and identifying process problems and assisting engineers and operators in making intelligent decisions in complex situations.

NeurOn-Line is a graphical, object-oriented software product that enables users to easily build neural network applications. Neural networks help users model dynamic, non-linear phenomena that are too complex to be described by analytical methods or empirical rules. NeurOn-Line is claimed to be well suited for advanced control, data and sensor validation, pattern recognition, fault classification, and multivariable quality control applications. Unlike other tools, Gensym's NeurOn-Line provides neural net training and on-line deployment in a single, consistent environment.

At its Texas City Refinery, Amoco Oil Petroleum Products takes preheated crude oil and separates it into five streams: top stream, naphtha. kerosene, diesel, and bottom stream. However, its on-stream analyzers are subject to breakdowns, drift, and a time delay of more than 30 minutes. By applying GDA and three neural net models created with NeurOn-Line, Amoco is reported to have been able to create a dependable, continuous, real-time control system featuring "soft sensor" values for the compositions. The result: more than 95% closed-loop utilization, and an estimated savings of more than $500,000 per year in recovered product.

Based in Cambridge, Mass., Gensym Corp. is a leading supplier of software products and services for developing and deploying intelligent systems. Applications built with Gensym software address the complex, dynamic problems found in industrial, scientific, commercial, and government organizations. Gensym has sold more than 5,000 product licenses to organizations in more than 40 countries worldwide. Founded in 1986, Gensym has 27 offices around the world.
