Fujifilm Begins Film Production in the U.S.

Fuji Photo Film U.S.A., Inc. (Elmsford, N.Y.) has begun production at its new, fully-integrated 35mm film factory in Greenwood, S.C. The factory, which is based at the company's North American manufacturing complex in Greenwood, will produce Fujicolor 35mm film, including the new Fujicolor Superia color print film. This marks the first time ever that Fujifilm is producing 35mm film in the United States.

The Greenwood factory has the initial capacity to produce 100 million rolls annually. The manufacturing of 35mm film in Greenwood along with a recent expansion of the company's color paper facility together represent an additional investment of approximately $200 million and the creation of 100 new American jobs at the Fujifilm complex. Fujifilm's total investment in Greenwood now exceeds $1 billion, with employment exceeding 1,200 associates.

"We are very proud to be able to offer our valued American customers our high quality Fujicolor 35mm film from our Greenwood factory," said Osamu, "Sam" Inoue, President, Fuji Photo Film U.S.A., Inc.

Fujifilm's first factory in Greenwood, for the production of presensitized plates for the graphic arts industry, opened in 1989. Fujifilm-Greenwood now has six major production facilities and the largest Fujifilm distribution center in the world, totaling more than 2 million square feet of manufacturing and distribution space. The complex now produces 35mm color film, color photographic paper, QuickSnap one-time use recyclable cameras, presensitized (PS) plates for offset printing, graphic arts film, and VHS-format videotape for the consumer and duplication markets. Fuji Photo Film, Inc. was established in Greenwood, South Carolina in 1988 and serves as Fujifilm's North American manufacturing headquarters. It is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Fuji Photo Film Co., Ltd.
