CHEM SHOW '99: Extrudalloy 50 is a patented alloy developed by the company specifically for hardfacing plastic extrusion and injection screws. This material is optimized to resist degradation in various modes of failure, experienced on an extrusion screw, viz, galling, sliding, abrasion and corrosion.
The Cr, C and B in the alloy impart excellent abrasion resistance to solids wedging and plastic fillers like glass, mica, CaCO3. The Co and Mo in the alloy enhance the sliding and galling wear resistance between the screw and the barrel. The Cr and Mo impart enhanced corrosion resistance to hydrochloric and hydrofluoric acids generated when processing PVC and PTFE.
It is available as gas atomized powder for PTA hardfacing, Plasma Spray and Powder Metallurgy. It is also available in rod form for oxy-acetylene and TIG welding and as flux covered electrode for manual welding.
