Explosion-Proof Two-Wire Vibration Transmitter Now Meets Important Specs

The PMC/BETA Model 162VTR-A two-wire vibration transmitter now meets CSA specifications and Class I, Div. I, Groups B, C and D specifications for explosion-proof devices. Frequency range is 120 to 60,000 CPM and accuracy is ±10% of indicated output.

The 162VTR-A provides a 4 to 20 mA output proportional to vibration level for input to computers or PLCs, where alarm and trip functions are accomplished. This permits problems in rotating machinery to be detected before they become serious and before catastrophic failures can occur. The unusually small size of the 162VTR-A makes it very useful in explosion-proof applications.

The unit utilizes a solid state crystal to generate an electrical output when it is deformed by vibration forces. The output is then electrically converted to the 4 to 20 mA signal. As required by ISO standards, the measuring circuit uses an RMS detector. Further, international standards ISO 2372 and 3945 specify that vibration severity is directly related to vibratory velocity. Therefore, the 4 to 20 mA output of the 162VTR-A is proportional to velocity.

Mounting of the 162VTR-A is accomplished via a threaded stud at the base of the unit. Removal of the top cover permits wiring directly to a terminal strip. Also, electrical conduit can be connected to the NPT fitting.
