Exploring Cooperation On Calcium Hypochlorite Project Between SBD And KAPSOM

On December 12, 2023, the CEO of Algeria’s SBD Company, along with a his team, visited KAPSOM. The two parties mainly conduct technical and business exchanges on the application of chlorine gas produced by their caustic soda plant and the development of new products.

SBD is an Algerian enterprise specializing in the trade of plant quarantine and public health products. Its main business encompasses various professional fields, including public health, animal health, agricultural products, agro-food, trucks and machinery, as well as civil engineering. Additionally, the company is dedicated to providing a wide range of products, including fruits, dry vegetables, agricultural chemicals, and fertilizers, contributing to its extensive business scope.

Chlorine is one of the by-products in the production of caustic soda. For chlor-alkali plants primarily focused on caustic soda production, chlorine, as a by-product, plays a role in bleaching and disinfection. According to statistics, for every ton of caustic soda produced, approximately 0.886 tons of chlorine are released. Chlorine gas has a wide range of applications, serving as a potent oxidizing agent, an industrial bleach, a sterilizing agent, and is also a crucial raw material in chemical synthesis.

As we know from the exchange, currently the chlorine gas produced by our owner’s caustic soda plant is mainly used to produce hydrochloric acid and sodium hypochlorite products. Hydrochloric acid is mainly exported to European and Asian countries, while sodium hypochlorite is predominantly sold in the local market. In an effort to diversify product offerings and enhance the value of its products, SBD plans to initiate a calcium hypochlorite project, thereby maximizing the utilization of its by-product chlorine.

KAPSOM has extensive experience in utilizing chlorine by-products from caustic soda plants and employing the sodium process to produce high-quality bleaching powder. In order to reduce the owner’s management and operating costs and improve investment efficiency, we are committed to continuously optimizing the design during the execution process and fully coordinating all stages of project design, procurement, and construction. The exchange with the senior management of SBD has provided us with a deeper understanding of the market demand for calcium hypochlorite products. We look forward to establishing a closer partnership with SBD, working together to develop and promote high-value downstream products in the chlor-alkali chemical industry.
