Engen Limited, incorporated in the Republic of South Africa, is a holding company with investments in the exploration, marketing and refining of oil and related industries. Its principal shareholder is Petronas.
The Company was originally listed on the JSE as Trek Beleggings Beperk in 1968, allowing investors to participate for the first time in an oil company. It changed its name to Engen Limited in May 1990 following the acquisition of Mobil's refining and marketing business in southern Africa.
Elements of the Engen group trace their origins back to 1897, and have a proud history of dynamic growth in refining, marketing and distribution of petroleum products throughout southern Africa since those early days.
The Company listed its upstream business on the JSE during March 1996, and holds a 57,5 percent interest in the oil and gas exploration and production subsidiary, Energy Africa Limited.
