Dupont Announces Management Reshuffle
Dupont has announced that Joseph T. Murray, vice president for Corporate Plans and David M. McAndrews, vice president and general manager for Fluoroproducts, will retire on Dec. 31. Murray will be succeeded by J. Erik Fyrwald, who is currently global marketing director for Engineering Polymers. Thomas M. Connelly, who is currently serving as global business director for Kevlar, Advanced Fiber Systems, will succeed McAndrews.
Murray joined Dupont in 1962 as a market development representative in the Fibers Department and has spent most of his career in the Fibers marketing organization. He has also held business management positions in the former Petrochemicals Department and in DuPont Engineering Polymers.
Fyrwald joined DuPont in 1981 as a production engineer at the Victoria, TX-nylon intermediates plant. He has held various technical, business management and planning positions in the DuPont Nylon, Automotive and Engineering Polymers businesses. In 1990 he was transferred to Tokyo where he was director of Engineering Polymers- Japan and regional business manager for Butacite safety glass interlayer. He returned to the U.S. in 1994 when he was named regional business manager for Zytel nylon resins- Americas, a position he held until 1996 when he was named to his current position.
"Erik will help lead the process to make DuPont more externally focused so that we can better anticipate the changing needs of world markets," said DuPont President and CEO Charles 0. Holliday Jr. "He will lead the development of outside networks of world-class experts to help provide external perspective and facilitate faster strategic decisionmaking."
McAndrews joined DuPont in 1964 in sales and marketing in the former Fabrics and Finishes Department. He has held marketing, manufacturing, business planning and business management positions with several key DuPont businesses and in corporate plans. From 1979 to 1982 he was based in Hong Kong as group managing director-Southeast Asia, DuPont Asia Pacific. In 1988, he was named vice president and general manager-Industrial Polymers, DuPont Polymers, and in 1991 he became vice president and general manager of the newly formed DuPont Packaging and Industrial Polymers strategic business unit. In 1996 he was named vice president-Chemicals and Specialties Portfolio Analysis in the Office of the Chief Executive, and assumed his current position last year.
Connelly joined DuPont in 1977 as a research engineer in the former Elastomer Chemicals Department. He has held various U.S.- based research, technical and business management assignments in the former Polymer Products Department. In 1987 he was transferred to the United Kingdom as UK manager-DuPont Polymer Products and site leader at Hemel Hempstead. Three years later he moved to Geneva and assumed technical responsibility in Europe for engineering polymers and ethylene polymers. In 1991 he became technical director for DuPont Polymers-Europe, and head of the European Technical Center at Meyrin, Switzerland. In 1992 he was named business director-Delrin. In 1994 he was transferred to Hong Kong and assumed additional responsibilities for the engineering polymer business in Asia, excluding Japan. Last year he was named to his current position and moved to Richmond, VA.
