Dow Chemical Canada president-CEO to retire after 32 years with company

CALGARY (CP) - Dow Chemical Canada's president and chief executive officer, Vince Smith, announced Tuesday he will retire in July after 32 years with the company. Smith joined Dow Canada in Sarnia, Ont., as an engineer in 1972 after graduating from McMaster University in Hamilton. He rose through the ranks to become the company's president and CEO three years ago. "While it is tough to say 'farewell' to the many friends I've made over the years, I decided some time ago I would retire at age 55 and that time has now come," Smith said in a statement. The company said a successor will be announced at a later date. Dow Chemical Canada Inc., a subsidiary of The Dow Chemical Co., employs about 2,000 people in Canada. Its headquarters are in Calgary.
