Dow Announces June 1 Price Increases For Oxygenated Solvents

Midland, MI - In response to stubbornly high raw material and energy costs, as well as continuing margin erosion, The Dow Chemical Company announced that it will raise list and off-list prices on a number of products in its Oxygenated Solvents portfolio in North America June 1, 2006.

"It's clear that the gap between price and cost has continued to narrow," says Martin Sutcliffe, global business director, Glycol Ethers. "Several months of price decline, coupled with the recent changes in hydrocarbon costs, now make this price increase a necessity."

"Given the current market conditions, our continued supply of these solvents is no longer sustainable, therefore, we need to increase prices, says Pat Gottschalk, global business director, Solvents & Intermediates. "Additionally, recent geo-political issues have driven oil prices to record levels, adding even further uncertainty to future olefin costs."
