Many utilities have chosen wet limestone scrubbing as the process of choice for flue gas desulfurization (FGD). INVISTA's organic diacids are additives which can significantly enhance this process. Both Adi-pure® high purity adipic acid and Dibasic Acid (DBA) are available to meet the user's needs.

Operators of coal-fired boilers want FGD systems that are reliable, are based on proven technology, and meet environmental regulations at optimal power generation cost. Utilities, technology vendors and architect/engineering firms are discovering that organic additives improve SO2 removal efficiency and offer a wide range of possible benefits including:

  • Equipment downsizing of new scrubber units

  • Reduced investments in scrubber retrofits

  • Lower operating expense through
    • reduced L/G ratio in wet scrubbers
    • less power consumption by slurry pumps
    • reduced limestone consumption
    • reduced sludge volume
    • consumption of less expensive coal

  • Increased generating capacity

  • Less maintenance costs through reduced scaling and gas exit corrosion

  • Improved ability to handle swings in inlet SO2

  • Accumulation of additional SO2 credits for use or sale
