CHEM SHOW '99: A new line of ColorTec-PCM with Super Bright LEDs is now available to analyze color in process applications, and to compare color to reference standards stored in software. The line uses the same electronics and optics technology as the original PCM with the addition of a new generation of light emitting diodes. The design offers cost saving and performance advantages for monitoring color on line and in the QC lab. Designed to operate as a stand-alone, battery-powered device or connected to a personal computer, the personal color meters simple operation allows the user to assign and store a color reference and compare subsequent colors and shades against that numeric value. It gives quick PASS/FAIL readings and can be used to check incoming materials, spot check color on the production floor and gather data for later statistical analysis. The on-board computer built into the design is capable of converting the electrical responses from the sample surface to full spectrum reflectance data. Color difference is calculated automatically and PASS/FAIL is calculated based on preset tolerances.
The personal color meter offers a choice of color standards, including CIELAB, L*a*b*, LCH and CMC. When interfaced with ColorSoft-QCW quality control software for Windows, the user has access to complete graphics and charting capabilities. Color plots display trials relative to standards and tolerances; elliptical tolerancing is available to correlate PASS/FAIL decisions with visual acceptability. Frequency charts display output based on strength, yellowness and whiteness indices. A full data base manager allows users to manipulate data with Excel and other compatible DBMS products. Additional features of ColorSoft-QCW quality control software for Windows include multiple scaling techniques and the ability to analyze many test samples at once.
