CMAI Outlines PetroChina Strategic Business Position
Houston, YX - Chemical Market Associates, Inc. (CMAI) recently completed the Chemical Company Analysis (CCA) on PetroChina Company Limited, the third company report of the 2008 Edition. The report includes strategic direction, financial overviews, global chemical business operations/positions, chemical manufacturing site descriptions and chemical product material balances for PetroChina.
PetroChina is the largest Chinese oil and gas producer and distributor, and the second largest petrochemical producer behind SINOPEC. Established in November 1999 by CNPC (China National Petroleum Corporation) as a joint stock company with limited liabilities, PetroChina since April 2000 has been listed on the New York and Hong Kong stock exchanges, and since November 2007 on the Shanghai stock exchange. State-owned CNPC continues to hold 86.29 percent of PetroChina's shares. The company is geographically focused on the Northern part of China and employs over 450 thousand people.
PetroChina's business strategy is aimed at transforming itself into a highly competitive, international energy company. The emphasis on oil and gas exploration and production in PetroChina's business strategy reflects the subordinate roles of the chemical and refining segments to the company's overall operations. The latter two segments will remain geographically focused on China, where PetroChina will make efforts to meet the rapidly growing requirements for both fuels and chemicals.
PetroChina over the next several decades will continue to benefit from the exponential demand growth in China for crude and refined oil and gas products as well as chemical intermediates. New investment projects are underway utilizing modern technologies and significantly improving PetroChina's economies of scale.
The Chemical Company Analysis (CCA) is a multi-client service aimed at analyzing the structure, dynamics, competition and strategic issues of global and regional chemical industry participants. The 2008 Edition includes company reports on Chevron Phillips Chemical, Braskem, PetroChina, Total Petrochemical, Borealis and Mitsubishi Chemical; as well as a supplemental report on the pro-forma combined assets of Dow Chemical Co and Rohm & Haas.
