Storage and handling Chlorine should be stored in properly designed and constructed systems suitable for chlorine service. The moisture content of the chlorine determines the materials of construction for these systems. Dry chlorine (as defined by the Chlorine Institute) is typically handled in carbon steel. Metals such as titanium, aluminum and tin must not be used. Wet chlorine is highly corrosive to most metals and is typically handled in equipment lined with fully halogenated fluorocarbons such as TFE or PVDF. Specific storage and handling requirements will depend on usage rates, temperatures and other process requirements.
