Chattanooga based Chattem Chemicals, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of ELCAT., Inc., is a producer of Fine and Specialty Chemicals for a variety of markets including Pharmaceuticals, Nutriceuticals, Catalysts, Printing Inks, Greases, Coatings, and Plastic Additives.

In our cGMP facilities we specialize in Aluminum based chemistry such as: Alkoxides (i.e. Aluminum IsoPropoxide), Specialty Aluminum Hydroxides, (with or without Magnesium Hydroxide for Antacids, Catalysts, and/or Plastic Additives), and Aluminum Chloride. Aluminum IsoPropoxide (AIP) and other Alkoxides are used as a catalyst in Meerwein-Pondorf-Verley Reductions; Oppenauer Oxidations; and Tishchenko Condensation reactions.

Chattem is the first of two U.S. producers of Glycine (Amino Acetic Acid) used for intravenous solutions; feed additives for animals; and in electroplating baths. Chattem's current Nutriceutical offering is Creatine Monohydrate, a substituted amino acid, which has found wide spread usage as a Ergogenic aid.

Our Liquid Performance Additives find use in the cross-linking of oleoresinous systems for rheological modification and control; viscosity, elasticity and drying rate control of Printing Inks and Coatings; Aluminum Complex greases for food and industrial applications; and oil well fracturing fluids.
