CAS_DIGIT CAS Number Utility
Many companies find out years later that someone has transposed two digits or that they were provided with an incorrect CAS Number from the start!
Because of the possibility of human errors during the transcription of CAS Registry Numbers, the Chemical Abstracts Service uses a check digit to help insure their accuracy. The digits preceding the last digit of a CAS Registry Number form a machine generated, unique number assigned to a substance at the time of registration.
The last digit (furthest right) is a check digit computed algorithmically from the preceding digits. The check digit can be recalculated and verified any time there is reason to suspect an error.
Don't take a chance with regulatory records!
CAS_DIGIT tracks down the bad ones. Browse for your .DBF file the "Windows way" and CAS_DIGIT will check it out!
What CAS_DIGIT Does.......
CAS_DIGIT uses the check digit algorithm to do the verification calculation on a single number entered by the user, or it will test an entire database file if it is in the .DBF format.
The user searches the drives on his computer with a conventional Windows file selection dialog box, selects the fields containing the CAS Numbers and substance names from a Windows list box and clicks OK. When CAS_DIGIT finishes checking the file, it displays and prints a report showing the record number, the incorrect CAS Number, and the substance name of all records that contain incorrect CAS Numbers.
