Callery Chemical
After the war, MSA researchers also received contracts to further study potassium and other alkali metals. In 1946, MSA began exploring the chemistry of boron compounds at its Evans City, Pennsylvania research labs where the Callery Chemical Company division was formed to segregate MSA's chemical manufacturing and research activities. It was named after the nearby borough of Callery, Pennsylvania.
Callery received contracts in the 1950's and early 1960's to produce boron-based fuels for the U.S. government. Gulf Oil Corporation, then a leader in fuel research, acquired part ownership of Callery during this period. The government fuels program eventually was suspended by the U.S. government and MSA reacquired complete ownership of Callery in 1965. Since that time, Callery has worked aggressively to become the world's leader in alkali metal, boron, and alkoxide-based technologies.
GOVERNMENT EXPERTISE FINDS COMMERCIAL NICHE
Today Callery Chemical Company is the result of a successful transfer of technology from the government arena to the commercial marketplace. By combining the expertise Callery gained from its early ventures with the technology MSA employed in the production of elemental potassium, Callery has established itself as a leading producer of specialty chemicals serving a variety of commercial industries. More recently, Callery expanded its offering to include a full line of amine boranes and metal alkoxides and chiral reagents. Callery is also the only manufacturer in the world that produces and stores commercial quantities of diborane. Today, Callery remains the world's leading supplier of elemental potassium and sodium-potassium alloy, borane reagents and metal alkoxides.
Callery believes that success in a global marketplace means responding to customer needs, wherever those customers are located. As such, the company maintains sales support through agents around the world as well as international warehousing.
GLOBAL FOCUS
Callery is well positioned to respond to the changing needs of its global customers. Callery maintains and agent network throughout the world, serving customers in Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, India, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Mexico, the Netherlands, Norway, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Turkey, and the United Kingdom. As a company focused on the future, Callery continually invests in new equipment and technologies. The company has completed construction of the world's largest facility for the production of diborane. Ongoing construction and investigation into new technologies will increase the metal alkoxide capacity.
