Loss-In-Weight Feeding Directly From Silos
A major manufacturer of custom plastic films used in the production of packaging, bags and labeling needed to add a new resin production line for their recycled plastic films. They were faced with the difficulty of storing and delivering shredded plastic fluff by loss-in-weight and metering the recycled raw material to their new plastic resin extruder.
Storage for 10,000 lbs. of various shredded plastic films was needed to supply raw material to the extruder. The varied nature of the light material presented difficulties discharging from bulk storage.

New Heart for Pneumatic Conveying Systems
The same manufacturer needed to add pneumatic conveying and bulk storage systems to the new resin production line for their recycled plastic films. They wisely chose Activator Inc. as the supplier of a totally integrated bulk handling system. Included were five Patented, BlowPac™ Pressure and Vacuum Blower Packages, and four new storage silos for the receiving and delivery of plastic resins from their new extruder.
Their existing pneumatic conveying system had a separate concrete walled building constructed for the containment of blower packages. This "Blower Room" housed nine conventional blower packages of several manufacturers in attempts to find a quiet one. All of these packages failed to provide adequate noise attenuation resulting in a >120 dBA noise reading. The "Blower Room" had signage that read: "CAUTION – Both ear muffs AND ear plugs are REQUIRED beyond this door". The isolated blower room was an unpleasantly hot, energy wasting health hazard. The company was spending thousands in overhead energy costs and liability insurance premiums.
