Bayer MaterialScience Upgrades Integrated Polyol And Systems Production At New Martinsville, W. Va., Plant

Computerized Control for Entire Formulated Systems Production Process to Significantly Improve Efficiency and Flexibility

New Martinsville, W. VA - Bayer MaterialScience, LLC has approved a significant upgrade project at its New Martinsville, W.Va., integrated polyol and systems production facility. The project, which represents an $8 million investment, provides state-of-the-art computerized control for the entire formulated systems production process from raw material receipt to final product shipment. The project is expected to significantly improve the flexibility of the unit to align with the current and future needs of a dynamic marketplace. The project will be implemented in phases with completion expected by the fourth quarter of 2007.

"This project underscores our commitment to Bayer MaterialScience's integrated New Martinsville site and to the local production of polyethers," says Peter Vanacker, head of the polyurethanes business unit at Bayer MaterialScience. "In addition to enhancing flexibility, we also significantly improve our efficiency involving an increased capacity for polyether formulations at this site, which is scheduled to become a major location for specialties in the Nafta region."
