Bayer MaterialScience Introduces New Aromatic Polyester-Based TPU Resin

Bayer MaterialScience LLC has expanded its Texin family of aromatic polyester-based thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) resins with Texin DP7-1197. The new resin was designed for applications that require durability under harsh conditions.

"Texin DP7-1197, with a Shore hardness of about 88A, is a general purpose, injection molding-only grade that's ideally suited for tough applications. They include caster wheels, weather seals, and industrial and automotive components," said Gerry DiBattista, Bayer MaterialScience channel manager for TPU injection molding.

The resin's key features include:
· A low compression set even at elevated temperatures as high as 158 degrees Fahrenheit (70° C). At that temperature, DP7-1197 has a compression set of 20 percent. Other commercially available resins have a 30 percent compression rate at that temperature.

· Excellent wear resistance and overall toughness, including high tensile and tear strength.

· Very good processing through injection molding. The resin is clear to slightly opaque in its natural state.
