Bayer MaterialScience Introduces Baytec SPR 185A Thick Film Coating For Industrial Roofing Applications
Thick Film Coating Formulated Specifically for Industrial Roof Systems Highlighted at PACE 2006
Pittsburgh - Bayer MaterialScience, a pioneer in developing polyurethane hybrid thick film coatings, has expanded its family of thick film coating systems with the introduction of Baytec SPR 185A thick film coating. Formulated specifically for the demanding environment of industrial roof systems, Bayer's Baytec SPR 185A system combines durability, flexibility and rapid cure to create a monolithic seamless roof coating that provides exceptional protection against leaks, weathering and foot traffic.
This new thick film coating system combines the best of both worlds. When reacted to form a roof coating, the Baytec 185A spray system contains both polyurethane and polyurea chemical linkages. This allows the product to harness the excellent durability of a polyurea along with the flexibility and processability of a polyurethane.
Bayer highlighted its new Baytec SPR 185 thick film coating at the 2006 Paint and Coatings Expo, held Jan. 29 through Feb. 1, in Tampa, Fla.
Baytec SPR 185A Thick Film Coating Stands Up to Demanding Environments
The Baytec SPR 185A thick film coating cures a variety of roofing headaches and sets the standard for long-lasting, quality roofing solutions, according to Steven Reinstadtler, market channel manager, Spray Elastomers Group for Bayer MaterialScience.
Commercial metal and SPF built-up roofs are subject to stresses caused by rain, snow, fluctuating temperatures and changing mechanical loads. Reinstadtler explains that the tough, elastic and weather resistant coating of the Baytec SPR 185A spray system solves these problems for both pitched and flat roofs. The elastomeric system stretches with the roof's movement to bridge joints and cracks, while at the same time, the system's permeability to water vapor prevents moisture from building up in the roof structure.
Bayer's Baytec SPR 185A thick film coating offers a number of benefits to industrial roofing applications. For example, the spray system limits costly roof corrosion as well as water damage to internal structures, thereby increasing the service life of the overall structure.
Furthermore, the spray system offers excellent resistance to weathering, ozone, hydrolysis and many chemicals, and even passes the Ponding Water Test where other roof coatings fail. In addition, Baytec SPR 185A thick film coating is easily applied over a variety of substrates, such as direct to metal, concrete and many sheet goods systems, and it provides a seamless, homogeneous seal over joints and fasteners – even around roof kneewalls and roof protrusions such as vent pipes and HVAC systems.
It is also important to note that the Baytec SPR 185A thick film coating reduces slips, trips and falls, as there are no pulled up seams on the roof for workers to trip on, and it addresses leaks that cause hazardous floor conditions inside the building.
Baytec SPR spray systems are approved for use in industrial waterproofing applications by a variety of federal, state and local authorities as well as civil engineering and consulting firms in the United States and worldwide.
"Bayer pioneered work in this area 35 years ago," said Reinstadtler. "As the world's largest producer of polyurethane specialty chemicals, Bayer continues to set the pace in the innovative thick film coating systems industry. The introduction of the Baytec SPR 185A thick film coating is the latest example of this continuing innovation."
