BASF and ABB sign global partnership agreement

Eschborn, Germany, ABB, the global power and automation technology group, and BASF AG, the world's leading chemical company, signed an agreement for the supply of DCS-Systems to BASF facilities worldwide.

The agreement comprises Operate IT distributed control systems (DCS), Control IT controllers and other controllers of the Melody and Freelance-series. The agreement also includes engineering services, documentation, FAT (factory acceptance test) training and maintenance. The agreement grants BASF global contract terms, which will lead to uniform purchasing procedures worldwide and standardized technology.

"BASF is aiming to obtain standardized delivery conditions globally in consideration of special local requirements such as service agreements and service prices which differ from country to country," explains Hubertus Dietz, ABB Global Account Manager for BASF. "This agreement significantly simplifies the purchasing and delivery process, and also reduces engineering costs through the efficiency and re-use capabilities of Engineer IT tools."

The agreement will pave the way for future agreements between BASF and ABB, like the price agreement for Field IT instrumentation that is already signed, and another agreement for Analyze IT, which is under negotiations right now. "With similar strategic agreements already in place with other international corporations in the chemical industry such as The Dow Chemical Company and Noveon, ABB is focussed on supplying our customers with products, solutions and services that increase their productivity," said Dietz.

ABB (www.abb.com) is a leader in power and automation technologies that enable utility and industry customers to improve performance while lowering environmental impact. ABB has 146,000 employees in more than 100 countries.
