Aristech Starts Ohio Phenol Unit

Aristech Chemical Corporation recently announced that it has started operation of its new 242 million-pound- per-year phenol line at the company's Haverhill, Ohio, site. The new unit was constructed on schedule, and brings Aristech's total capacity to 942 million pounds per year. The new line is the third at the 731-acre Haverhill site, and it has been designed to accommodate expansion in the future.

The unit is based on state-of-the-art phenol technology licensed from The M.W. Kellogg Technology Company of Houston, Texas. Kellogg also provided engineering, design and procurement services on the project. Morrison Knudsen Corporation of Boise, Idaho, also engaged in some procurement, and handled construction of the facility through their Cleveland, Ohio, office.
