Ansul introduces new technology for acid and alkaline spill management
TARGET-7 Vapor Mitigation and Neutralizing Agent is the latest groundbreaking product from Ansul's laboratory. Designed to reduce the hazardous risk of chemical spills like chlorine dioxide and ammonia, this unique agent allows for a one-step application process to both contain hazardous vapors from a spill and neutralize the spilled product. It is best suited for dangerous fuming acids or other hazardous chemicals where spill time and application become critical.
"Dangerous acid or alkaline spills typically require a two-step process to alleviate the hazard: applying a neutralizing agent to adjust the pH and applying a stable foam agent to mitigate the hazardous vapors," said Mitch Hubert, the Ansul chemist who developed TARGET-7 agent. "Our new agent performs this traditionally laborious process quickly, significantly reducing the high risk of human exposure."
Hubert said the new agent was tested at three sites in North America. TARGET-7 agent successfully contained and neutralized chlorine dioxide spills at two large paper mills and titanium tetrachloride at a large chemical plant. "Because of the toxicity of the chemicals we're working with, we have to conduct the tests on site," said Hubert. "During these tests around the continent, clients said how TARGET-7 outperformed other methodologies or other types of products."
