American Acryl to Build New Facility in Bayport, Texas
American Acryl plans to construct a $150 million facility for its chemical manufacturing operations in the Bayport Industrial Complex. Located along the Houston Ship Channel, Bayport currently has more than 60 operating plants.
The new facility will include a 120,000 tons-per-year acrylic acid plant operated by American Acryl, which is the new joint venture company of subsidiaries of Nippon Shokubai Co., Ltd., and Elf Atochem North America, Inc. At the same location, Elf Atochem will separately own and manage a butyl acrylate plant.
The construction for the plant is scheduled to begin in 1999, with first production beginning in mid 2000.
Chairman of American Acryl's board, Bill Kraus said, "The acrylic acid facility will utilize Nippon Shokubai's state-of-the-art proprietary technology and all of the facility is designed to operate within stringent environmental standards."
