AlliedSignal Specialty Chemicals To Purchase Southwest Microelectronic Materials

AlliedSignal, Inc.'s Specialty Chemicals business has agreed to purchase Southwest Microelectronic Materials, Inc. (SMM; Chandler, AZ), a manufacturer of high-purity process chemicals, such as solvents, acids and etchants, used in the semiconductor industry. SMM's high-purity chemical production facility in Chandler and its 17 employees, will become part of Specialty Chemicals' Electronic Chemicals Group.

The additional production capacity that the purchase brings will help support the recently announced alliance between AlliedSignal and Air Products Electronic Chemicals, according to Norbert Dieterich, vice president and general manager, Chemical Specialities, AppliedSignal. Under that agreement, AlliedSignal is the exclusive manufacturer of a line of electronic process chemicals that are marketed by Air Products. "The purchase brings to AlliedSignal, and to our alliance with Air Products, a wide array of metal and silicon etchants, critical applications support and long-term industry experience," Dieterich explained.
