Acclaimed as the pioneer in nutritional technology, Albion Laboratories, Inc. is the world's major producer of patented amino acid chelated minerals used to benefit plants, animals, and humans. Albion's patented chelation processes bind a mineral, such as iron, zinc, or copper, to amino acids. The results in minerals with enhanced bioavailability, a quantitative measure of how effectively living things utilize nutrients.

Since minerals are required by all species, Albion produces chelated minerals for three separate industries. First, Albion provides patented bioavailable minerals for human pharmaceuticals, human nutritional supplements, and food fortification. Second, it also makes patented bioavailable minerals for animal pharmaceuticals and fortified animal feeds. Third, Albion produces patented bioavailable mineral chelates as agricultural fertilizers and as plant growth nutrients.

Harvey H. Ashmead, Ph.D., founded the firm in 1956, in a rented building in Ogden. The company had humble beginnings. Ashmead invested all of his money, $250, to start Albion. In 1970 the company's offices and research facilities were moved to Clearfield. Since that time, this privately owned enterprise has rapidly expanded and currently has several domestic and foreign subsidiaries.

Ongoing sophisticated research has been and will continue to be the key to Albion's success. It already has received over 70 patents and several more are pending. Virtually all patents in the field of amino acid mineral chelates have been awarded to Albion. Long-term thinking is crucial to Albion's research and development; for its current studies may take five to 10 years before commercial products are available. Extensive field and lab research by independent sources have confirmed the effectiveness of Albion chelates in increasing mineral absorption and utilization by plants, animals, and people.

The current president is Dr. H. DeWayne Ashmead, Ph.D. in nutrition and author of several books. Albion's research on the importance of chelated minerals in living systems has expanded our understanding of nutrients. In cooperation with the United Nations, Albion has helped develop agricultural and nutritional programs for a number of countries, including Ivory Coast, Abu Dhabi, Brazil, Guatemala, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Greece, and Egypt, to mention a few. Albion continues to work with the world leaders to demonstrate how their nations will benefit from Albion products.

Prominent organizations have praised Albion's international contributions. The World Trade Organization and UNICEF also have honored the company.

Although Albion has been honored for its past achievements, its eyes are on the future. It looks forward to using its advanced nutritional technology to help meet the world's growing need for improved crops, livestock, and human nutrition.
