A. H. LUNDBERG, INC. was founded by A. Halvar Lundberg in 1933 after he was informed that the Seattle, Washington office of his employer, G. D. Jensen Co., was to be closed due to the Depression. Halvar, as he was known to his many friends and employees, was at that time working directly for the Jensen Co., Halvar traveled to New York, and rather than accept a transfer East, he negotiated a manufactures representative agreement with the Jensen Co. In the ensuing years Halvar, of Swedish birth, managed to secure representative agreements with other prominent Swedish suppliers to the pulp and paper industry, notably Kamyr, Defibrator AB, and Rosenblad Patender.

Halvar expanded his activities into the design of chemical systems, notably sulfite pulp mill acid plants, utilizing the necessary components of his principles. The modern sulfite pulp mills in the Pacific Northwest operate acid plants that were designed and/or supplied by A. H. Lundberg. Joint venture or partnership companies were also established; Lundberg-Ahlen Equipment, Ltd. in Canada and A. H. Lundberg, Ltda in Portugal.

Following his graduation from the University of Washington with Bachelor and Master degrees in Chemical Engineering, Halvar's son Lennart entered the pulp and paper industry. After working for a time as a digester cook in the Weyerhaeuser Timber Co. pulp mill in Longview, Washington, and a year in the Kamyr laboratories in Stockholm, Sweden, Lennart joined his father in 1955. At this time the company was incorporated and relocated form Seattle to the office building they constructed on Mercer Island, Washington. During the ensuring years Halvar gradually turned the company over to Lennart and in 1970 retired. Lennart Lundberg pursued his interests in specialized custom process systems and expanded the scope of engineering and process design into areas that were not served by others. Following World War II, representation of other companies decreased as the principals established their own sales staffs in the area. At present no other companies are represented.

In 1978 some reorganization of the "Lundberg" companies occurred, and a new company, "A. H. Lundberg Associates, Inc." was formed with the purpose of purchasing the assets of A. H. Lundberg, Inc., and broadening the company ownership. In 1983, however the majority of the shareholders of A. H. Lundberg Associates, Inc. elected not to proceed with the purchase of the original company, to operate independently and to remove their offices from the Mercer Island, Washington location. Lennart Lundberg continued to operate the original A. H. Lundberg, Inc. until his death in 1987.

In early 1988, upon sale of the company to new owners, all of the records and detail drawings were transferred to new offices in Everett, Washington, where A. H. Lundberg, Inc. continues the business that was established in 1933.

A. H. Lundberg, Inc. is not affiliated with any other company that may be referring to themselves as "Lundberg" or that uses "A. H. Lundberg" as part of their company name. A. H. Lundberg, Inc. remains an independent company serving the pulp and paper industry worldwide.
