Low Pressure Extruder
The Extrud-O-Mix EM-2 is a bench scale low-pressure extruder that combines continuous mixing of powders with liquids or other lubricants and extrusion. The system also performs as a preprocessor before spheronization, cooling, coating, cooking, or drying operations with a variety of doughs, pastes, wet cakes, or gels. It is designed for product development and requires as little as 2–5 lbs powder feed for feasibility studies. With a typical capacity range of 20–60 lbs/hr, it allows for studies with minimal quantities of short supply and/or high value raw materials. The extruder is suited to handle a variety of mineral, chemical, polymer, and food applications.
The versatility of the unit results in a number of features including: powder metering feeder, integral control panel, temperature profile measurement, multiple point pressure monitoring, continuous load monitoring with feedback capability, variable frequency drive control, multiple orifice plates, interchangeable rotor elements, and internal mixing orifice plates or anvils. All components are mounted on a mobile stand requiring only a single connection to supply power.
