Application Note: Tablet Manufacturing Application Note

Source: Schenck Process Food and Performance Materials (FPM)

Customer processes pharmaceutical grade product used as a bulking agent in tablet manufacturing.

The customer uses two separate materials to make several versions of the bulking agent. One set of products utilizes limestone as the raw ingredient, and another uses oyster shells mined from the ocean. The limestone arrives in bulk bags, which feed into a bucket elevator to refill the feeding system. The oyster shells are ground and processed on-site, stored in a silo, and fed into a bucket elevator to refill the feeding system.

In both processes the powder is fed into an agglomerator and combined with water to create larger particles. The materials are dried, screened and the finished product sent to packaging. The fines from the screener are returned to the agglomeration process.
