Granules in the Chemical Industry

Years ago, merely chemical properties and activities were considered when it came to chemical formulations. Increasingly complex applications of raw materials or basic substances, or of special chemicals make it necessary to also formulate the physical properties of a product.

For particulate matter, and here we need to know that the majority of raw materials or products in the chemical industry is present in the solid state, the defined particle size is of outstanding significance. Defined particle size means that certain limits in the macroscopic range must not be exceeded or fallen below. The size of all particles is required to be within a predetermined tolerance range.

If the particles of a chemical or active substance are present in a defined size real benefits for their use and/or further processing result:

  • Homogenity when mixed with other compounds, such as colored pigments with a substrate will yield more homogeneous mixtures in shorter time.
  • Numerous applications require very tight tolerances for the particle size, for example toner particles in laser printers.
  • In production processes, it is rarely feasible to feed dusty solid chemicals. The defined particle size allows economic downstream processing.
