MTBE

Huntsman Corporationiary butyl ether (MTBE) is available in bulk shipments via pipeline, barge, and ocean going vessels. The company's production capacity is approximately 27,000 barrels per day or 400 million gallons per year. MTBE, an EPA-approved gasoline additive, is manufactured by the reaction of isobutylene and methanol. When blended with gasoline, MTBE can reduce carbon monoxide pollution during the winter, ozone pollution during the summer, and toxic emissions year-round. It is also used as an octane enhancer in conventional gasoline.
