Fuel Tech Announces Fuel Chem Program Addition; Represents Fourth Large Coal-Fired Unit At Customer Site

Batavia, IL - Fuel Tech, Inc., a world leader in advanced engineering solutions for the optimization of combustion systems in utility and industrial applications, recently announced that a fourth unit has been added for utilization of a FUEL CHEM program at the site of an electric utility customer in the Southeastern United States. The additional customer unit is a large boiler burning coals with relatively high levels of sulfur and iron. Chemical feed is scheduled to commence by the beginning of the third quarter.

John F. Norris Jr., President and Chief Executive Officer, commented, "This major customer will be adding a new unit to its power generating station and has opted to commence a TIFI Targeted In-Furnace Injection program in anticipation of operational issues such as sulfur trioxide (SO3) emissions, slagging and fouling. Based on our program's success at the station's other three units, we are confident that we will not only solve the aforementioned issues, but will enable our client to benefit from enhanced fuel flexibility."
