Everybody knows that FTIRs can do the monitoring, and it usually gives the most coverage, but what’s the reason that somebody would spend more money on an FTIR unit when conventional instruments are cheaper?
Well, for a couple diff erent reasons. First, FTIR’s do not get fooled. If your matrix changes or the plant has an upset, the FTIR will continue to give you reliable measurements, accurate measurements in spite of everything. This compares favorably to simpler systems, which oftentimes continue to say everything’s fi ne, and it’s not.
