FiberFlex ( Flexible Nuclear Level Detector)

Ohmart/VEGA has developed an innovative radiation detector for continuous level, curved surface applications. FiberFlex was unveiled at ISA Tech/1999, and received the ISA Tech/1999 Innovator Award. FiberFlex uses an organic scintillator in the form of a flexible fiber optic cable bundle that offers advantages over the traditional solid scintillator material. The detector can be used with many of the various source holders supplied by Ohmart/VEGA to complete the gauge system.

Measurement lengths can be up to 3 times longer than the traditional solid scintillator. The flexible bundle can conform to the shape of any vessel, eliminating blind spots caused by mounting multiple straight detectors in rigid housings. The detector bundle is very lightweight and can be installed without rigging or heavy-duty supports. The flexible detector is attached to a small explosion-proof HART protocol electronics housing. The electronics performs all signal conditioning and outputs a calibrated 4 to 20 mA measurement signal directly from the instrument.
