Heyl & Patterson, Inc.nneburg MultiDisc Thermal Processor is a cost-effective method for indirectly drying and cooling bulk solids. The MultiDisc is a low-temperature, indirect processing unit using conductive heat transfer. The processor has the highest heat transfer surface area per unit volume in the industry. The design reduces surface fouling, pluggage, and high horse power consumption. Thermal sources include water, steam, or hot oil. Product temperature range from 120°-600°F for coal, chemicals, plastics, and fine particles.

The MultiDisc is an indirect dryer/cooler using conduction-convection heat transfer principles. These principles have been utilized for sometime in steam tube rotary and indirect paddle processors. Some of the advantages of indirect processing include a high product to surface area ratio, efficient processing at low temperature, and minimal off gas volumes.

The key to the new MultiDisc design lies in the construction of the disc and shaft assembly into a modular assembly of hollow shaft and multiple discs. The discs are permanently attached to the shaft to create a fixed, sealed, and self-contained unit. The design allows the heat transfer fluids such as water, steam, oil, or refrigerants to be circulated through the hollow assembly transferring heat or cooling action to the surfaces of the revolving discs. The product to be dried or cooled flows in and around the discs in the trough. As a result, the product is exposed to a very large amount of disc surface area within a relatively small container. This concept offers a very high area to volume processing ratio.

  • Operates in eight batch or continuous modes
  • Unit can be positioned to operate in horizontal, inclined, or vertical positions
  • Improved bearing life through small shaft diameters and state of art sealing technology
  • First in/first out-processing for controlled residence time
  • Angled conveying bars which eliminate sidewall by-passing or short circuiting
  • A choice of disc assemblies configured in either meshing or non-meshing modes or in combination
  • Easy replacement of shaft assemblies add to the modular design of the disc assembly
  • Minimal spare parts inventory with standard shaft design
  • Designed to circulate the heat transfer fluids in either series or parallel flow patterns
  • The compact size is equally important. By virtue of its size and orientation, the MultiDisc puts total processing capacity into the floor space that could barely accommodate the drive train needs of a more conventional cylinder or paddle processor.

Heyl & Patterson maintains a complete pilot plant-testing lab for testing your product in the MultiDisc under a variety of conditions. We will custom design your unit based on your requirements and our recommendations.
