Atlantic Coast Crushers' Flow-Sentry Installed For Chemical Manufacturer To Continuously Reduce The Size Of Lumps

A chemical manufacturer in North Carolina receives Sodium Sulfite, a dry granular powder, in rail cars. The sodium sulfite is transferred from the rail cars into a large 200,000-pound capacity storage Silo. When needed, the Sodium Sulfite is fed through a cone with a 12" diameter outlet at the base of the Silo, to a short 12" diameter to 10" diameter transition, and then into the 10" diameter inlet of an Air Packer. The Air-Packer is used to package the Sodium Sulfite into 50# Bags for transport and sale. However, because the Sodium Sulfite is hygroscopic (tends to absorb moisture from the air), the stored material often forms hard lumps up to 4 or 5 inches in diameter. These lumps clog the nozzles of the Air Packer during the bagging operation, causing shut downs and housekeeping problems. A Model 10FS-04 Flow-Sentry Crusher was installed in the pipeline to continuously reduce the size of the lumps to less than ½ inch diameter, eliminating the clogged nozzles. Because there was no space available between the existing piping and equipment, we designed a special Body for the Model 10FS-04 Flow-Sentry. By making the inlet of the Flow-Sentry 12" diameter and the outlet 10" diameter, we were able to replace the existing transition and install the machine in-line with minimal site modification.
